On a Cat Creations? What a weird name that is!

Let me tell you a little about myself and my silly site name. My name is Anneka (rhymes with Monica) and I am the creator behind On a Cat Creations.

As a child, my father used to call me Annekat (probably because I was obsessed with our pet cat), which sounds like on-a-cat. As pretty much every person who has ever read my name has pronounced it wrong, I figured I’d use the phonetic spelling instead of the actual spelling. Plus I am a big fan of cats. Though I do not sit on them (just to clarify!). Perhaps I should design some cat clothing and accessories.

I have been crocheting since I was 17 years old and love making everything from amigurumi to hats to blankets to clothing. I enjoy learning about new techniques and have recently picked up Tunisian Crochet, which I am thoroughly enjoying. I still haven’t learnt to knit though… one day.

I was born and raised in Canada, but have been travelling the world ever since a student exchange to Luxembourg at 16. I’ve lived in the Netherlands, South Korea and currently, the UK. I love travelling the world and I believe that I have become a better person for it (albeit probably slightly more annoying to my friends for the amount I talk about other countries).

I am an Art/English teacher by trade and I started crochet clubs at the last few schools I taught at. I loved teaching my students about one of my hobbies and seeing them go from no idea how to hold a hook to creating their own crocheted creations. I have plans to make tutorial videos in the future and might look into online crochet instructing.

The purpose of this blog is to give me a place to share my crochet passion with the world. I’ll share creations I’ve created by other designers, designs of my own and crochet tips and techniques.
